The Employment Status of People with Disabilities and Policy Instruments - According to disability-degree -

Abstract

Unemployment rate of people with disabilities in Korea is 28.4%, which is 6 times compared to the rate of nationwide. The fields of their job are also preponderated on agriculture, simple-manufacturing jobs, service & selling. And large parts of their job are not wage earning but small sized self-employment. Their wage, employment type, kinds of occupation, etc. are different according to disability-type and disability-degree. In this study, significant variables which influenced to working types were their sex, age and disability-degree. Looking into unemployment rate according to disability-degree, 2nd degree were the highest(35.7%). and next were 3rd degree(26.1%), 1st degree(23.2%), 5th degree(18.0%), 6th degree(17.1%). Above results imply that vocational rehabilitation policy(or service) should be more classified and specialized according to several disability-types and disability-degrees
